A statement by Javier Lopez

"From your perspective, what are the main risks and opportunities for fair and decent jobs for migrants in the European Union?" - "In broad terms, the main risks for a fair social and labor inclusion of migrants in our societies are the permanent economic crisis and stagnation, and the rise of populist and extremist political options in several European countries.

On the one hand, we need to foster aggregate demand and expand public funding for social investment to deal with deteriorating situation of the most vulnerable, migrant and non-migrant people. On the other hand, populism takes advantage from anger and hopelessness of those hit harder by crisis, loss of rights and opportunities and cuts in social networks, to spread hate and reject migrant people who remain in the country or are newcomers."

The complete statement will be published in the next issue of our magazine IQ konkret 3/2016.
